How to tell when you’re not prepared to sell your house?
The decision to sell a house isn’t something that can be made easily or overnight. It can be really stressful deciding if you want to sell your house, especially if you have lived there for very long and it holds many memories.

Rather than rushing into it, you may want to spend some time thinking the decision through slowly. If you list your home for sale very suddenly, yet turn down all potential buyers, this may be an indication of one of the following:

You still hold onto your home emotionally

If you’ve lived in your home for 10 years or more, chances are that you would have formed many memories there. You may have lived there with a loved one who has passed on, and that would make leaving the house that much more difficult.

Rather than forcing yourself to feel something you don’t, consider waiting a while longer until you are more ready to move on with life. Seeing strangers living in a place you consider precious can actually be very traumatizing.

The Price You Want is Higher than the Market Value

If the amount of money you are asking for the house is more than 10% its current market price, the best way to actually achieve what you want is by being patient and allowing the market trends to take its course. If you put off selling your house, you won’t run the risk of the house being sold at a lowered price after its been on the market for longer than necessary.

No Plans for Your Next House

If you have no idea where you will live next, and have no solid plans to rent, buy or build a house, it’s better to put the sale plan on a hold until you have a solid assurance that you can move out and find a secure shelter, and not be homeless.

You’ll also need to be fully motivated to pack up, clean up and ship out even before the house gets sold. If you’re not ready to commit to that, or don’t have the finances for it, it’s better you delay the house sale.
