APDL Delay For More Than 5,000 Housing Units In Penang
GEORGE TOWN, June 24 (Bernama) - About 5,000 housing units in Penang have yet to get approval for the Advertising Permit and Developers Licence (APDL) from the Ministry of Urban Wellbeing, Housing and Local Government (MOUWHLG).

Without the APDL, the housing developers cannot sell and promote the project. They also cannot finalise the sales and purchase agreement.

Penang Real Estate and Housing Developers Association (Rehda) chairman Datuk Jerry Chan said this affected the developers and buyers who wanted to own their first home.

He questioned the delay in approving the APDL since October last year as previously, the applications only took two weeks to be approved.

"Previously, problematic applications were told of the reasons and the developers would resubmit them but now, no reason is given. All the APDL applications are put on hold," he told reporters here, today.

Chan said the delay posed difficulties to the buyers as most of the affected projects were low-cost and affordable housing.

Meanwhile, Housing and Urban Planning Committee chairman Jagdeep Singh Deo had sent a letter to the MOUWHLG to seek clarification over the APDL delay.

He gave the MOUWHLG 14 days from the date of the letter (June 24) to take appropriate action before taking legal action.

Of the 48 APDL applied for in Penang from August 2014 until February this year, only 18 were approved, while 30 others were still being processed.
